In 2014 my friends from The Gathering invited me to document their 25th anniversary concert at Doornroosje in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. They performed two sold out shows back to back on the 9th of November 2014.

2500 photos

Documenting the show was a daunting job. That day and night I shot roughly 2500 photos from onstage, above the stage, backstage and everywhere in between. Most of the photos featured in the photobook accompanying the CD and LP and on the cover of the albums were shot by me. Additional photography for the photobook and cover was provided by Peter Blok (https://www.peterblok.nl/) and Marcel Helder (https://www.puurfotoweb.nl/).

Final Selection

If shooting the show was a big job, going through 2500 photos was an even harder task. After two selection rounds, I ended up with a final selection of over 150 photos. These 150 photos were painstakingly edited and prepared for print. In the end around a third of these were used in the final release. Five years after the release, I decided it’s time to share all the photos that made the final selection, a total of 158 photos.

Tech

The images below were shot on a Canon 5D mkII with an array of different lenses. All photographs were shot inside the rather dark venue using only available light. The photos were edited in Adobe’s Creative Suite 6 with a few plugins for color correction and effects.
