Exhibition

As announced in my last blogpost, my work is currently being shown at the worldwide Affordable Art Fair this weekend in De Kromhouthal in Amsterdam, courtesy of ABN AMRO Recruitement. About 65 galleries are displaying works by artists unknown and well-known, including household names such as Banksy and Damien Hirst. I am very excited for what is my first Dutch exhibition, having my work displayed alongside these great artists.

My works

For my show I have chosen 8 images that feel right together. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a series, but seeing them next to one another, I am very happy with my choices. Most of the photos are landscapes, but as is often the case with my photography, they are quite abstract. Half of the works are from my Island series and the other half are selections from other series or separate works. As a preview I have included one image from an upcoming series I shot during my recent trip to Denmark. My work was printed by Erik Fliek, who has done a wonderful job advising me and producing the prints.

Fellow Artists

I am accompanied at the Fair by two of my colleagues, great artists both. Elizabeth Kleinveld recreates the works of old masters in her photography and then gives it a playful, striking twist. One great example is the “Meisje met de Parel”, which is exquisitely recreated by Elizabeth and Epaul Julien (they operate under the artist name E2), but instead of using a Dutch girl as the “meisje”, Elizabeth opts to photograph an Asian girl for her take on this Dutch classic. Much of her work is inspired by the horrors of social injustice, exploring themes of prejudice and racism. Elizabeth has 7 works on display.

Dimitris Kritsilis is a Motion Graphics designer who can create dreamlike images out of thin air, it would seem. Conjuring up a cloud in a beautifully lit room, or take you on a tour of beautiful architecture that is nowhere to be found in reality, because this world is virtual and created by Dimitris. He has six screens playing one of his creations each up on the wall. I am honored to have my work hang alongside the work of these talented people!

An attempt to unblock myself – Music

Technology plays a significant role my creative endeavors. I spent the most time being creative in my studio. In this blog I will look at podcasts and music.

An attempt to unblock myself – Film

Another form of expression I love is very dependent on technology. In this blog I will look at making films and talk about my ambitions and goals.

An attempt to unblock myself – Writing

In the next couple of blogs, I will talk about how technology helps me to get my ideas out into the world. I’ll also reflect upon my ambitions and goals. In this blog I focus on writing.

An attempt to unblock myself

For many years now, I have enacted violence upon myself by stifling my thoughts and expressions. It is time for change.

A Journey Through Our Cosmic Neighborhood

My dad who is nearly 81 years old, is really into space. I thought it would be fun to write a basic introduction to the cosmos for him.

Just a dream

I’ve been frustrated, thinking of selling my studio. Meanwhile I released an album and tried to find inspiration again. This weekend I recorded “Just A Dream”.

Released 5 years ago today – Summer Of ’92

5 years ago today Shipwrec released my CausaliDox EP Summer Of ’92. In this post I take a look back and talk about what the tracks mean to me.

Sampling into Assimil8or

Today I decided to sample some non-electronic instruments into my Eurorack sampler. A tabla, a cabasa, a wooden flute and some pillbottles.

A critic in time

Today I spent some time selecting poems I wrote in my early 20’s for the website. It feels strange to critique myself and my poetry 20-some years later.
