The images in this series explore the human inherent impulse to impose order on chaos. In the process of creating these images, patterns and archetypical shapes emerged, despite the absence of intent. Originating as photographs taken in nature, the final compositions are the product of a creative process where emotional resonance guided the evolving forms through successive transformations into their final state, each iteration further removed from their origins, mirroring the way memory reshapes and distorts over time.
This process has some kinship to memory, that also, by its nature, relies on constructs born out of the maelstrom of sensory input. Like starlight, that is in essence a memory of something which may not even exist anymore by the time it is perceived, widening the gap between the remembered and that which remembers to a gaping nigh unbridgeable chasm.
Perhaps this light, hurling across the expanse, these photons, are drawn into a black hole, intercepted and erased before ever being perceived or registered, leaving no trace, existing in no memory. This interim state of the photons – existing yet unseen, between the moments of creation and annihilation – echoes throughout the album’s exploration of unremembered being.
